Meeting and climbing information: The staffs of Monterosa Treks and Expedition welcome you at Tribhuvan International Airport of Kathmandu and will take you to hotel. On the next day, we have an orientation program with all our crew and expedition members. Since then we make your Tibet Visa permits and other necessary document for Cho Oyu Expedition.
The meaning of Cho Oyu is 'Turquoise Goddess' as per Tibetan Dialects. Austrians are first to climb the sixth highest peak Mount Cho Oyu (8201m) in 1954. Then after Indian and German team also climbed this peak in 1958 and 1964 respectively. Till to date many expedition teams have successfully step on to this peak. Tibet side is the most preferred rout to reach this peak. Cho Oyu is said to be the easiest 8000 meters peak. Since 1998, our Company "Monterosa Treks and Expedition" is conducting the expedition from Tibet side like Everest, Cho Oyu, Shishapangma, Lhakpa Ri and others
From ABC, we can see the excellent view of mount Cho Oyu. This is the main base camp where we spend majority of time looking the favorable condition for the expedition. Single tent is given to each individual. We fully serve our member up to ABC and after that the climbers should manage all services by themselves privately. From ABC it is several hours strenuous walk on a vague path over moraine-covered glacier to the start of the mountaineering properly. Camp 1 is either situated on some ridge at 6400m from where actual mountaineering begins. The ridge is now considerable and you should climb successive huge steps, several of which probably require fixing a rope up there. You should fix a new rope co-operating with other members on the mountain. One-one rope is used for both ascending and descending in normal. Though it is cleft route, it does not create problem to move ahead.
four days trek expand our journey to advance base camp (ABC). ABC is in the heart of the Himalayas at 5700m surrounded by celestial peaks. There is also the High pass called Nangpa La nearby which, an old yak track trading route between Nepal and Tibet which is still in use exists. From ABC, we can have the excellent views of Mt. Cho Oyu. This is the main base camp and we plan to stay majority of time looking for appropriate for the expedition. Tent is given to each individual traveler. Our Service will be full board only up to ABC and after that the climbers should manage all services themselves. From ABC it is several hours arduous walking on vague path over moraine-covered glacier to the start of the mountaineering properly.
Camp 1 is either situated on some ridge at 6400m, from where actual mountaineering begins. Soft and easy climbing is here next which broadens out and you should climb successive huge steps, several of which probably require fixing a rope up there. You should fix a new rope in co-operation with other members in the expedition. Normally one rope is used for ascent and another for descent. The crevassed route does not create any problem in the expedition.
The panorama of Mount Cho Oyu from Summit Camp 2 is on the edge of a large plateau at 7125m and you can carefully assess to put the rope here. You may attempt the summit from here if you are fit enough or you may establish a light Camp 3 across the plateau and up on a minor ridge at 7550m. Above Camp 3, there are two rocky steps where you should fix another set of ropes prior to our ascending. Finally, in the early morning you will start for summit from camp 3. The slopes are steep above the rock bands and you may take a line to fix there as per favorable conditions, however once on the crest of this ridge the terrain is straightforward along a long haul to the summit plateau.
One can be amazed by the spectacular view of mountains including, Mount Everest 8848m, mount Lhotse 8501m, mount Nuptse 7855m, mount Chamlang 7319m, mount Ama Dablam 6856m and other peaks of the Everest region to the east and south from here. To the west, there are the Mount Melungtse and Mount Gauri Sankar massifs and to the north, is entire Tibet Area. Descending to Camp 2 from Summit and continue down to Advanced Base Camp is normal.
