Phoksundo (Phoksumdo) Lake is a Himalayan freshwater located in the district of Dolpo, in northwestern Nepal. Lying at an altitude of 3612m from sea level, the pristine lake has been designated a Ramsar wetland and falls within Shey Phoksumdo National Park.
The lake is believed to have been formed some 30000 years ago. The heart melting ethereal sight of the lake brings a sense of tranquility and peace to any trekkers passing. Hemmed in by high and rugged mountains on three sides, the lake plunge into an impressive 167m waterfall from its south side. The lake is regarded by Dolpo people, who practice Tibetan Buddhism, sacred and offer their worship annually to the lake. There are as many as 20 stupas and one Gompa to the south of lake along with Ringmo village.
Phoksundo Lake Trek takes you on a journey to see and experience Phoksundo, a natural miracle in the heart of Himalayas. You will require special permit to enter this region. The trail start from Juphal, which is just a flight away from Nepalgunj, and follows the ancient trade route used primarily to transport salt and wool from Tibet to this region. Be prepared to cross the two highest Himalayan passes Bagar La (5182m) and Numa La (5190m) on your return route. There many gompas along the route you can visit such as Napukhona Gompa, Guru, Shipcha, Tshowa and Tsering monastery.
All along the journey you will be able to enjoy spectacular views of Ghyuthumba, Matathumba, Kanjiroba, Kagmara, Triangle peak, Api Himal etc.

Day 01: Arrival Kathmandu & transfer to hotel.
Day 02: Fly from Kathmandu- Nepalgunj & transfer hotel
Day 03: Fly Nepalgunj – Jumla & Trek to Gothichaur
Day 04: Gothichaur – Naphukana
Day 05: Naphukana – Basala (Just past Chaurikot)
Day 06: Basala – Toijem
Day 07: Toijem – Kagmara Phedi (Base camp)
Day 08: Kagmara BC – Lasa ( Other side of the pass )
Day 09: Lasa – Sumduwa
Day 10: Sumduwa – Ringmo (Phoksundo Lake)
Day 11: Ringmo (Rest Day) for acclimatization
Day 12: Ringmo – Yak Kharka
Day 13: Yak Kharka – Pelungtang Phedi (Over the Baga La Pass)
Day 14: Pelungtang – Mondo / Tok-Khyu ( Numala Pass)
Day 15: Mondo – Do Tarap
Day 16: Do Tarap – Narpani ( Where it meets with the Tarap Chu)
Day 17: Narpani – Khanigaun
Day 18: Khanigaun – Byasgar
Day 19: Byasgar – Jufal (Dunai) Dolpa
Day 20: Jufal – Nepalgunj – Kathmandu flight.
