Everest, the world's highest mountain in the world, and participation in Mani Rimdu Festival, the biggest festival of Sherpa community of Everest region.
The highlight of the trek is visit to base camp of Mt. Everest at an altitude of 5364m along with a 4 hour hike to top of Kalapathar (5545m) to watch the breathless and most spectacular views of Mt. Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse, Island peak and Khumbu Glacier. Much of the trail passes through Sagarmatha National Park, a world heritage site, which is home to such rare wild animals as snow leopard and Himalayan thar.
On your way back from base camp you will stop over at Thyangboche Monastery (3860m), also known as Dawa Choling Gompa, to observe Main Rimdu Festival, the biggest Buddhist festival observed by Sherpa community of Everest region. The festival takes place for 3 straight days during October and November, a jamboree of monks who come to perform puja and mask dances from different corners of the Himalayas. After the festival you will retrace back to Lukla to catch a short return flight to Kathmandu.
