Hindu and Buddhist Pilgrims along with Tamang Shaman visit the lake on full moon during the month of August. According to Hindu mythology, Gosainkunda was formed when Lord Shiva in his rush to cool his throat from poison effect stab his trident into the ground which sprang forth jets of water.
