Today the monastery is in the care of Chaiba community. The trekking starts from Juphal, which is connected by a direct from Nepalgunj. Two days walk from Juphal will reach you Shey Phoksundo Lake (3600m), a high altitude lake, is a Ramsar site lying within Shey Phoksundo National Park. The Lake is breathtaking beautiful with turquoise water and a natural serenity. Along the trek you will have constant backdrop of snowy Himalayan peaks from Dhaulagiri in the north to Wedge peak, Kang peak and Mt. Api in the west.
The Kangla Pass at 5151m is one of the highest passes in the Himalayas and crossing this is mandatory to get to Shey Gompa (4200m).
